Nugob on YouTube

Some of my animations can now be found on YouTube. I put quite some effort into these short films so I thought I can as well make them avaiable to a wider public. Please enjoy!

The Robbery

Those and other short films can still be found and downloaded in Quicktime format in the animation section on this website.

I think it's really about time to make a new animation. It will take time but I really feel I want to make a new animated short film. Preferably with a different style this time; but as always: the story must be right in the first place.

Domo-kun

Domo-kun: A Cat in Horror

Talking about Japanese stuff. By chance I stumbled across Domo-kun. I don't know much about it, but the pictures are just hillarious. Even I don't know why they are.

What is Domo-kun? As I couldn't describe it more precisely myself I use the definition from Cardhouse (Cardhouse as in "Sorry we're Cardhouse."): "Domo-kun is a small brown open-mouthed monster hatched from an egg who lives with a wise old rabbit underground."

It also happens to be the stop-motion mascot of Japan's NHK television station.

Of course - as with all useful and useless stuff that comes from Japan - you can buy Domo-kun (alongside with tons of other products of this kind), you can build your own Domo-kun (have a look at the gallery!), and even read Domo-kun's Blog.

Here are some more pictures...

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sheep, But Were Afraid to Ask

SheepI just came across Sheepfilms. Excellent! I love the simple style and I love when someone is making films to entertain and not to show off with technical bric-a-brac. There is a lot to discover. Enjoy!

Oh, and does anyone know: Why are sheep so damn attractive?

Judging from some of my own stuff I have to confess that I am addicted to these balls of wool on four sticks myself.

Any answers? Any support groups? Please drop me a line.

RALPH

RALPH

Spending some part of my last two weekends I finally managed to bring my diploma thesis online. It's a »Manual for Story and Character Development with a Guideline for the Realization as Animation«.

It's quite large (the book has 200 pages) and some people asked me to publish it. So I thought a online version might help to get it a bit more public. Maybe it's of some use for you.

Now having made your mouth water here comes the drawback: It's in German only. (Sorry.)

So for those of you who speak German, take a look at ralph.nugob.org.

For those of you who speak html, the code is absolutely pure and clean W3C-conform.

Enjoy!

Karl Anton, animation

Wow! What a perfect animation in just 20 seconds! »Karl Anton« by Thomas Meyer-Hermann which I found on Studio Film Bilder. A very very interesting site anyway. I don´t think I can resist to buy Phil Mulloys »Intolerance« trilogy.

RALPH

Now comes to an end what started about four years ago: On Wednesday, September 22nd 2004, I had my final exam at uni, that is the presentation of my diploma thesis, it´s plea and the two courses »Human Machine Interface« and »Project Management«.

My diploma thesis is called »RALPH«. To be more precise, it is a »Manual for Character and Story Development with a Guideline for the Realization as Animation«. The bad news: it´s only in German. You can download RALPH in a printerfriendly version (low-res pictures only to keep the filesize at handy 1.3 MB).

That´s all for now, although I really have to update this page. So much happened: What about the wedding of Yuki and me? My holiday in Tokyo? My latest animation? My conclusion of four years of studies in Austria and Australia? What will happen next? All those questions will be answered soon, but I don´t have the time right now.

Stay tuned.

My Spoon is Too Big.

Don Hertzfeldt: Rejected

Have a look at bitterfilms, the website of animator Don Hertzfeldt. I saw the films "Billy´s Balloon" and "Rejected" some time ago. Amazingly funny stuff. Very inspiring. And I really love that stickfigure style. It doesn´t need more. The stories are pretty much not on that deep and meaningful side. Which is great. To say it in Felix´ words: »Get rid of that little voice saying that you are so smart. Be dumb!«

Hafenbüffet

Once again Café Imperial and The Robbery were screened. Once again it was part of the digital sushi program which took place in the Hafenbüffet in Rorschach, Switzerland, on Friday, March 12.

Anyway, the Hafenbüffet is really worth to keep an eye on: concerts, films, theatre, readings, art, etc. in a nice athmosphere.
