Australian East Coast - Part Five: Mission Beach

Mission Beach: Palm Tree

We stayed in Mission Beach for about one week. It was quite pleasant that - compared to most other parts of the east coast - tourism kept within limits.

Mission Beach: Our House in the Rain Forest

It was a beautiful place to relax, thanks to Thomas (say 'D´oh-Más') and his parents who gave us the possibility to stay in their house which was in the rainforest. It was beautiful and calm during the day. At night there was an incredibly great and loud background sound of animals who live in the rainforest around.

My Helmet

... we could set off to make some rainforest and coast walks, guarded by a less unpredictable bird called Tweety.

Mission Beach: A Rest in the Shadow

There are some very nice walks around mission beach with nice places to rest in the shadow ...

Mission Beach: Green Beauty

... under beautiful green natural fans.

Mission Beach: Shades of Green

Mission Beach: Shades of Green

Mission Beach: A Welocome Parasol

Divine, isn´t it?

Mission Beach: A Green Roof in the Rain Forest

Mission Beach: A Strangling Fig on a Host Tree

Some old friends, the strangling figs. This tree is the next candidate.

Mission Beach: A Huge Strangling Fig

This is a very very huge one. Or maybe two which merged. Looks ghostlike like in a fairy-tale forest. The old witch´s house should be close.

Mission Beach: A Peacock in the Rain Forest

And this is poor Peter, bewitched.

Mission Beach: Me, Stranded (Kennedy Walk)

One of the next days we went to a beautiful walk along the coast, the Kennedy walk, which I recommend a lot. It´s a way and return walk, not a circle one, but that´s fine. It is very diversified. After passing a warning sign that it might be unhealthy but not impossible to meet crocodiles we had a great four to five hours walk through rainforest, sandy beach (like Lover´s Beach and Kennedy Bay), stone beach (Turtle Bay), and rough rock coast.

Mission Beach, Kennedy Walk: Hot Weather Despite the Looks

The weather was rainy (quite warm rain) which was more pleasant to walk than the hot hot weather the days before. This also gave everything a very special atmosphere.

Mission Beach, Kennedy Walk: Kennedy Bay

We had this huge beach, the whole Kennedy Bay for ourselves. This bay is the end of the walk which stops at a river. One way just on this beach is about 1 1/2 hours.

Mission Beach

Back on the 'Mission Beach beach' we could have a swim. There is a small area protected by stinger nets during stinger and boxjellyfish season which is said to be safe.

Mission Beach: Trees, Beach, Ocean, Islands

After about one week we left this beautiful place again.

Mission Beach: Hibiscus

Reluctingly.
