Australian East Coast - Part One: Brisbane and the Glasshouse Mountains
From November 25 to December 24 I was travelling with some friends (Andrea, Andreas, Peter and Tim) along the Australian east coast. We took the greyhound bus from Brisbane up to Cairnes. The stations were: Brisbane - Noosa - Rainbow Beach - Fraser Island - Rainbow Beach - Rockhampton - Airlie Beach - Whitsunday Islands - Airlie Beach - Townsville - Mission Beach - Innisfail - Mission Beach - Cairnes.
We left Melbourne on November 25 to go to Brisbane by plane. There we catched up with our fellow students Andrea and Peter who did their semester abroad in Sydney. The picture above is the landscape around Brisbane on a one-day-trip to the Glasshouse Mountains and the Rainforest there.
Australian East Coast - Part Two: Fraser Island
If this is true Fraser Island is the hugest sand island in the world. It's quite close to the land so you get there by ferry in aproximately five minutes. As you probably don´t want to walk the 75 kilometres along the beach you should consider to take a jeep then. We did so and had three great days on the island.
Australian East Coast - Part Three: The Whitsunday Islands
After Fraser Island we arrived at Airlie Beach. The next day we took a three-day sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands. Last minute, we booked ten minutes before the ship should leave.
Australian East Coast - Part Four: Townsville
This is the lookout point of Townsville which was quite close to our backpacker hotel. Townsville was a short stop while travelling. We went to a nice aquarium there and to destroy the las little piece of hope to swim in the sea we watched the Imax movie 'Island Of The Sharks'. I fear stinger suits are not shark-resistant.
Australian East Coast - Part Five: Mission Beach
We stayed in Mission Beach for about one week. It was quite pleasant that - compared to most other parts of the east coast - tourism kept within limits.
Australian East Coast - Part Six: Innisfail Crocodile Farm
During our stay in Mission Beach we made a one day trip, hired a car and had a look at the area around. The first stop was the crocodile farm in Innisfail. Jurassic.
The first four ones are Emus, the last one is Tim.
