Australian East Coast - Part Three: The Whitsunday Islands

The Whitsunday Islands

After Fraser Island we arrived at Airlie Beach. The next day we took a three-day sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands. Last minute, we booked ten minutes before the ship should leave.

Ship Mast

Fortunately they waited a little bit for us.

Tim

Tim just catched up to meet us in Airlie beach, around two weeks after we left Melbourne.

The Skipper

The skipper.

The Whitsunday Islands: Dinner on the Deck

In the evening of the first day in a passage between two islands (if I am not wrong it is the Cook passage - but everything here is called by him) we had a really really delicious grilled fish. Probably the best food during this month.

The Whitsunday Islands: The Deck

This and some wine and a weather like we had in December. What else do you need to be happy?

Tim again

It seems that Tim cheated into every picture.

The Whitsunday Islands: Morning on Deck

After a nice night on deck under the stars I woke up by a (for me) bit stronger sea.

The Whitsunday Islands

We then sailed ...

The Whitsunday Islands: On Board

... to a nice coral reef for snorkeling.

The Whitsunday Islands: Snorkelling

It´s stinger and box jellyfish season which means it is too dangerous to go without a stinger suit. It might kill you. But actually the suits were too damn sexy to refuse wearing them. Here you see Captain Nugob (blue) and his crew.

Andres: Scary

Andreas ...

Andreas: Heroic

... and again. This time aware of the camera and in a more heroic Star Trek pose.

The Whitsunday Islands: Landing

Once during these three days we went to a beach on one of the Whitsundays ...

The Whitsunday Islands: reflections

... to have a look ...

The Whitsunday Islands: Awesome Beach

... at this most beautiful beach ...

The Whitsunday Islands: Evidence

... and to make one of those stupid photos of evidence: »Yes, I was there!«

The Whitsunday Islands: Seagull

We had a nice lunch there which attrackted the one and another seagull.

The Whitsunday Islands: Seagulls and Men

Those two guys are not yet aware of the Hitchcock scenario.

The Whitsunday Islands: Yacht

Later that second day on the sea we went to a calm passage again to anchor. Our ship was a catamaran, those ships with two 'vats'. Not as sporty as this one which overtook us but for me just right. I just get seasick quite easily. But on these three days I was quite lucky.

The Whitsunday Islands: Sunset

This was the end of a beautiful second day at the Whitsunday Islands. The next day was the way back to Airlie Beach.
